Mentorship, Funding and Showcase How *Scape Unleashed Jeremy Ho’s Artistic Passion

Tell us about yourself and what inspired your passion in this field?

Jeremy: I’m a filmmaker whose work focuses on culture and social issues. It started with a documentary filmmaking module in university, which led to my final year project in Pakistan. Since then, I’ve been driven to learn more about the world around me, and work at the heart of moments of cultural significance.

Can you tell us more about your role and experience being in MOV:MENT Lab programme

Jeremy: I co-directed “I Summon You” with Liz, crafting the narrative and technical capture around her choreography and deeply personal story. A movement film was a first for me, and it was special to collaborate across mediums and learn how to trust my intuition and my collaborator’s as well. In a way, it brought me back to a very instinctual form of filmmaking.

What was your biggest takeaway?

Jeremy: I’m very appreciative of this opportunity. *Scape enabled me to create work that I loved and helped to amplify its impact at the end of the undulating programme. Now I have a portfolio piece, a story I feel privileged to have worked on, and through this process, I’ve met amazing new collaborators.

What advice would you give to young people who are looking to pursue their passions and turn their ideas into reality?

Jeremy: Keep trying! Knock on doors, put yourselves out there, and always be curious. Seek out people who share your values and beliefs. As you pursue the ideas that matter to you, surround yourself with those who believe in those ideas—and in you. Bring them along for the ride. Take care of each other, so together, you can be bold, brave, and dangerous.

How was your experience working with *Scape?

Jeremy: I love working with *Scape. They were never didactic about how our work should turn out but supported us in creating and presenting the job in the best way possible. I would work with *Scape again if I could.

Any upcoming projects/plans?

Jeremy: Apart from filmmaking, I am also following another passion. I am currently hiking the Pacific Crest Trail in the US, walking from the border of Mexico to the border of Canda. If all goes well, I will wrap up by the end of September.
